WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) today announced that the Haleyville Fire Department has been awarded $61,835 in federal grants as part of the eleventh round of the Fiscal Year 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program awards grant money directly to fire departments and EMS organizations to support them and the services they deliver. “Our local fire departments do a tremendous job protecting our communities with limited resources,” said Congressman Aderholt. “I’m committed to doing everything within my power to see that they receive additional funding so that they can do their job efficiently and safely. I’m pleased to be able to support the Haleyville Fire Department and the important work they’re doing.” The Haleyville Fire Department was granted funding as part of the Operations and Safety Program which can be used for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and modifications to fire stations and facilities. For the 2008 program, the U.S. Congress has appropriated approximately $500 million in direct assistance to fire departments and EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and all other hazards. |
